Our Story
Abseiling and rock climbing adventures.
Akaroa Rocks is a rock climbing and abseiling business, based in Akaroa, New Zealand, and run by Franziska (Francis) Streisel, a German born and qualified Climbing Instructor. Safety is the highest value in all actions being taken.Francis took up rock climbing as a teenager and honed her skills through membership of the DAV (German Alpine Club) where she also lead training groups of young people in the skills of both indoor (wall) and outdoor (rock) climbing.Since moving to New Zealand in 2015, Francis has continued to pursue her passion, becoming a member of both the NZAC and the NZOIA; she is a qualified Rock Climbing Instructor, as well holding a First Aid Certificate. Francis also has Work safe approval to instruct rock climbing, at a number of well known local climbing venues.A fundamental aim will be for students to experience both the enjoyment and the problem solving skills involved in abseiling and rock-climbing, all in a healthy, and stunning outdoor environment of the Banks Peninsula. Our core vision is to make a difference for young peoples mental health in New Zealand through and with the climbing. We achieve this through competence, security and experience. We'd take action to self reflect and create responsible leaders.
